About Dr. Gofeld

Dr. Michael Gofeld is a renowned expert in chronic pain management with over 24 years of clinical experience. He completed his fellowship in Chronic Pain at the University of Toronto in 2005 and later defended his Doctorate thesis on Spinal Sonography at the University of Maastricht.

Dr. Gofeld pioneered Ontario’s first collaborative pain management program for palliative care patients at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. He then served as the Director of Clinical Operations at the University of Washington’s Center for Pain Relief, leading the Neuromodulation Program and holding a cross-appointment with the Department of Neurological Surgery.

In 2013, Dr. Gofeld returned to Ontario, contributing significantly to the Toronto Academic Pain Medicine Institute (TAPMI) and developing the Neuromodulation Program at St. Michael’s Hospital. He served as the interim Medical Director of the Women’s College Pain Clinic and advised on chronic pain for the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care of Ontario. Dr. Gofeld also played a crucial role in advancing chronic pain education at the University of Toronto, where he was appointed Associate Professor.

Dr. Gofeld is an internationally recognized speaker on chronic pain and serves on the editorial boards of several prestigious scientific journals. He founded the Interventional Special Interest Group at the Canadian Pain Society and introduced Canada’s first continuing medical education program for practicing pain physicians. Although he transitioned from academic practice in 2018, he continues to mentor trainees in the University of Toronto’s Pain Medicine Royal College residency program. He now practices in a community setting, focusing on advanced spine techniques, orthobiologic medicine, sports injuries, and innovative treatments for spine, musculoskeletal, and neurological disorders.

With numerous publications, patents, and ongoing involvement in medical research, Dr. Gofeld remains at the forefront of pain management and regenerative medicine.
